The mission of the Stanly County Genealogical Society is to collect, preserve, and publish the genealogies and histories of Stanly County’s citizens for the benefit of the public. The Society encourages individuals with a passion for history and genealogy to contact the society for assistance and are welcome to attend the Society’s monthly meetings. Members of the Society are usually on hand to assist with genealogical questions on Tuesday afternoons in the Margaret Johnson Heritage Room at the Stanly County Public Library in Albemarle.
Members of the SCGS are encouraged to submit genealogical material relating to Stanly County, North Carolina to the SCGS Journal Editor for publication. Material should be properly documented and credit will be given to the author of the document or the submitter. The Editor reserves the right to accept or reject any material submitted and reserves the right to edit any material submitted. Manuscripts submitted for publication will be considered for factual accuracy, sources used, style, clarity, and general appeal to membership.

Yearly membership dues are $10.00 and entitle members to receive four issues of the SCGS Journal, which is published quarterly. Memberships begin in May. Persons joining mid-year will receive the Journal issues printed up to their date of membership. The Journal is mailed to members the last week of January (Winter Issue), April (Spring Issue), July (Summer Issue), and October (Autumn Issue). The autumn edition contains the year’s index, current membership names, and a surname list.
